In ancient times, sugar was used in its liquid form as an important ingredient for cooking food. In Edo period (1600-1868), sugar began to be used in its solid form, as in a candy, and it served a significant dietary role for the people of those days. Either its shape or its flavour may stir the imagination of the old Japanese ways.

The origin of the name evolves around a German legend that is related to this flower. It is said that while a certain young man was gathering these flowers for his girl friend (lover), he fell into a river and while he was being swallowed up by the river's current he threw the flowers onto the riverside and pleaded to his lover, "Don't forget me." It is said in Europe that its grass is used for the treatment of Lungs as is known publicly. The flower language of blue WASURE-NA-GUSA is true love.
